Auricle piercings are on the outer rim of the ear about half way down. This area is made up of relatively thin cartilage and a large variety of jewellery is available. One of the most popular choices of jewellery for this piercing is the labret stud. This stud has a flat back and so is less likely to catch on hair or clothing and is comfortable during sleep. Ball closure rings, segment rings and horseshoes are also suitable for this piercing. The auricle can be pierced as either 1.2mm or 1.6mm gauge and a matching gauge jewellery should be chosen. Help choosing the correct size jewellery is available in our sizing guide. The most common length stud for an auricle piercing is 6 to 8mm and for rings and circular barbells/horseshoes the most common internal diameter would be 10mm.
