Snake Bites is the name given to pair of lip piercings which are placed symmetrically one either side of the centre of the mouth just below the bottom lip line to give the appearance of a bite mark. One of the most popular types of jewellery for this piercing is the labret stud. This is because the flat back is comfortable against the inside of the mouth. Titanium, Black PVD and 316L Surgical Steel studs are popular but they can cause wear to the gums over a long period of time. Bio-plast studs are flexible and soft and can be used instead of titanium or steel as they cause less gum wear. Other popular choices of body jewellery are Horseshoes (Circular Barbells) and Rings. There is a large variety of screw-fit add-on's to use with either labret studs or horseshoes, such as gem balls and cones , and clip-in add-on's for Ball Closure Rings. Segment Rings are also very popular. Snake Bite piercings can be 1.2mm or 1.6mm gauge but the most common length for studs is 8mm. The most common size for Rings and Horseshoes is 10mm.
