Medusa Piercing

The Medusa is a piercing through the philtrum which is the dipped in area between the bottom of the nose and the top of the top lip. The most suitable type of jewellery for the this piercing is the flat backed stud (labret stud). This is because the flat back is comfortable against the inside of the mouth. Titanium, Black PVD and Steel studs are popular but they can cause wear to the gums over a long period of time. Bio-plast studs are flexible and soft so are often used instead of titanium or surgical steel as they cause less gum wear. There is a large variety of threaded add-on's to use with the studs such as UV gem balls, flowers, stars and cones which can enhance the look of the piercings. The Medusa piercing can be 1.2mm or 1.6mm gauge, but 1.2mm gauge is most common. The most common lengths for studs are either 6mm or 8mm.
