The Labret piercing is underneath the bottom lip, just under half way between the mouth and the chin and in the centre. This piercing has a rich history and traditionally it was stretched to a large gauge. The most common type of jewellery for this piercing is the flat backed stud (labret stud), this is because the flat back is comfortable against the inside of the mouth. Titanium, Black PVD and Steel studs are popular but they can cause wear to the gums over a long period of time. Bio-plast labret studs are flexible and soft and can be used instead of titanium or steel as they cause less gum wear. There is a large variety of screw-fit add-on's to use with the studs such as gem balls, spikes and cones which can enhance the look of the piercings. The labret piercing can be 1.2mm or 1.6mm gauge but is more usually 1.6mm gauge and the most common length for studs is 8mm.
