The lobe (or earlobe) is the most popular type of ear piercing. There is a huge range of jewellery which is suitable for this piercing including, butterfly backed studs, flat backed studs, rings, and horseshoes. Some have gems or dangles on them and this piercing is suitable for silver jewellery as well as gold, steel, titanium, acrylic, wood , horn and bone. This section has body jewellery for the lobe piercing, but you can also wear other jewellery such as silver studs. The piercing is often 1.6mm gauge but wearing studs or earrings with fine posts means the piercing will shrink to fit the thickness of the jewellery. The lobe can be stretched to fit larger gauge jewellery, see the Stretched Earlobe section. The most common lengths for Flat Backed Studs (Labret Studs) are 6mm and 8mm. The most common ring and horseshoe sizes are 8mm and 10mm internal diameter. The best way to ensure you purchase the correct jewellery is to measure a piece of jewellery you know fits well, for help with sizing please read our guide.
